How to stop getting "those" email notifications......

I have made this a sticky until i get round to turning it off permanently...

INSTRUCTIONS
As posted in an earlier thread...

1.click on profile when you are logged in (on the horizontal links across the page under the banner)
2.click the preferences tab (just above the title "Registration information" in the window that opens)
3.in 5th position on the list where it says Always notify me of replies click on the "no" option.
4.click save at the bottom right of the page.
5. message will say "your profile has been udated"

I did all of the above and it has reduced the amount of notifications; however, I am still getting 2-4 emails per day.

oh, also did you uncheck the other options in the preferences list?
there are a couple of other things that send you emails too.

I thought it was you that did the admin jay jay.

it might be, im just trying to distance myself from it so i can join in like a regular! lol.
wen i say ill get on to admin, i mean ill get onto myself... when i get chance to open the control panel and search the help files for how to disable it, impliment it and get it saved, make sure it works etc, takes time. so, i am referring to my otherself, if you get me, the self that has time to do the admin, the self speaking now is the one who has just popped on inbetween doing real work to look at footi gossip!

i changed the setting last night,

when you post a message (not inluding quick reply) at the bottom of the page is a check box next to where it says "notify me of replies to this topic" or something like that... uncheck it when you post.

in the meantime, i am searching for the solution to have it unchecked by default.


(check your preferences again and make sure it saved correctly, i believe if it has saved correctly that when you post a message the "notify me" check box should be automatically blank)

one more thing which crosses my mind,

say you replied to a topic last week and the "notify me" check box was ticked, then you changed your settings, i think the new settings will only apply to your future posts, so if somebody replies to an old post where you were accidently subscribed to that topic, you will get a notification for that topic still.

you have two options,

you could go back to any old posts you have made and edit them, and try unticking the notify box, (this could be time consuming) and you could easily miss some too.

or

just wait it out, over the next week or so as those topics die and recieve no replies, you will get less and less notifications until they eventually just stop.

please note, if you get a reply notification email for a particular topic, you will not recieve another one for the same topic unless you again log in to that topic. ie, it only notifies you if there is a reply since you last looked, it doesnt send you 10 emails if there are 10 replies since you looked, so, if you stick with it, the emails you are getting should eventually, i would say, in a week, stop coming to you. just check your settings again to make sure.

ONE MORE THING YOU CAN DO,

if you dont want to wait for the mails to stop,

open the emails you have got and there should be a message telling you how to stop watching that topic, either do that, or click on the link in the mail where it says click the following link to stop watching the topic, do this on each separate mail you have recieved in the last day or 2.

ONE OTHER THING - to check you are not watching any topics,

click profile, and on the 6th tab along, it says topics being watched, go in there and delete any which you happen to be watching.
