Mark Davies Injury...

Post by Admin on Fri Jan 22, 2010 3:50 am

Bolton have had some good news regarding the fitness of Mark Davies after initial fears he had broken his ankle against Arsenal. The midfielder was stretchered off early in the second half at the Emirates Stadium after a challenge by William Gallas that the Wanderers felt merited a free-kick and a red card - they got neither.

The Trotters' disappointment was further compounded when Cesc Fabregas went on to score the crucial equalising goal in the 4-2 Arsenal victory after the referee allowed play to carry on.

Manager Owen Coyle described the challenge as more of an 'assault' than a tackle, while Bolton defender Paul Robinson called the incident 'disgusting.'

The only positive of the whole affair is today's diagnosis that he has not sustained a fracture but he still faces a short spell on the sidelines.

Coyle said: "It was a bad tackle, there is no getting away from it.

"You can accept it if he gets a bit of the ball, because that is the game we play and it can happen, but he has not touched any of the ball and it rubs salt into the wounds.

"I don't want to sit here and make excuses, but I have seen red cards for less."
